PHOTOGRAPHING THE ANCIENT SITES OF EGYPT

SAMPLE.....

I try to visit Egypt at least one a year as I adore photographing the ancient sites. Introduced to the subject at school many years ago, I was immediately hooked, and couldn't wait to see the spectacular and awe inspiring land for myself.

When visiting Egypt I would advocate that a little knowledge works wonders and a few hours reading a good travel book on the subject should make your holiday that much more interesting. I overheard one visitor in Luxor ask his holiday rep, "How long does it take to walk to the pyramids from here?" (The pyramids are actually in Cairo, not Luxor – which is over 550 kilometres away!) Whilst another was heard to comment, "If I’d known Egypt was full of ruins I would never have come."

In both instances I’m sure disappointment could have easily been averted if they had simply acquainted themselves both geographically and historically with the country. After all, I agree one ruin can look much like another, without any idea of why it was built, who for, its age and maybe a few areas of particular interest to look for. It’s little gems like these that fuel the imagination giving reason and meaning to your excursions and photography......
